To advance the education of counsellors working in other professional settings by:
a) Provision of education and training
Steps to Freedom achieves these aims and objectives by providing a 48 week programme of recovery which offers a theoretical approach that empathises recognising past pain, identifies maladaptive coping behaviours and supports the development of new skills, improved self-esteem and healthy relationships. The group are currently offered to women aged eighteen and over who are assessed as being able to engage in the group.
The charity has also started a volunteer programme that offers individual support to assist the personal development of survivors and provide opportunities to progress into training and employment.
Steps to Freedom established this service to meet a gap in provision for survivors of childhood sexual abuse in Merseyside.
Steps to Freedom successfully piloted a forty eight week programme with a number of women between April 2008 and March 2009. An evaluation of the project from the beneficiaries showed the projects impact was very significant.
Following the success of the first year and with considerable interest from Mental Health professionals and partner agencies other women have been referred or referred themselves the programme of recovery.
